W1 rowed twice at Sunday's 2km Bedford Head, in both the IM3 and IM2 categories, producing two strong times which will hopefully set them up for a successful bumps campaign.
In their first race (IM3) they were 5th= in their category, in a time of 7:27 and were beaten by only one Cambridge college, category winners Downing W1. In their second race (IM2) the girls found a better rhythm and came home in an impressive 7:16, placing them 4th in the category but just 2 seconds off 2nd.
Their quicker time put them 7th overall out of all women's VIIIs racing over the course of the day, and would have seen them finish 3rd in IM3. It also put them within 5 seconds of Downing, the fastest Oxbridge college of the day and 2nd fastest women's VIII overall.
The girls can be pleased at having proved themselves to be a fast crew not just on the Cam but away from it as well, and should be proud of their second time which beat all Oxford colleges and all but one of the Cambridge colleges.
