Sidney Sussex Boat Club is the student rowing club at Sidney Sussex College, part of the University of Cambridge. Any member of the college can join the boat club for free and use our facilities.
The aim of SSBC is to make rowing accessible to any member of college and to assist them in competing at whatever level they desire. In the last few years we have been represented in the squads of both Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club and Cambridge University Women's Boat Club with several Sidney rowers and coxes going on to compete at the Henley Boat Races.
At home Sidney always has a strong novice presence with 3 or 4 mens novice crews and 2 or 3 womens novice crews training and competing in Michaelmas term. In the Lent and May Bumps we put out 3 mens senior crews and 2 womens senior crews. There are also plenty of opportunities for "social rowing" in the summer weather. As well as racing on the Cam SSBC is represented at local and regional regattas at Bedford and Peterborough.
We share a boat house with Corpus Christi, Girton, and Wolfson boat clubs. Its about a ten minute walk from college or five minutes on a bike. To get there, have a look at this Map.
The Boat House is home to our fleet of boats including 7 eights, 2 fours, and 2 single sculls. There are male and female changing rooms with toilets, showers, and lockers for valuables. You can sign out a boat house key from the Porter's Lodge.
The Squash Court is home to SSBC's land training facilities. We have three Concept 2 ergometers that any member of the club can use whenever they want. There is a booking sheet in the Porter's Lodge and we recommend you use this to make sure that the ergs are free when you want them. Like with the Boat House you can sign out the Squash Court key from the porters.
